he Reverand Dr. William H. Foote, in his manuscript, said that the second son of James and Elizabeth (Glass) Vance, William Vance, married as his first wife, Nancy Gilkeson.
She was the aunt of Col. John Gilkeson. William's sister, Sarah Vance, was wife of Capt. John Gilkeson and they were the parents of Col. John Gilkeson, Capt. John Gilkeson being the brother of Nancy.
According to Dr. Foote, Nancy died early in her marriage, leaving a daughter named Margaret who was probably named for Nancy's mother, Margaret Lynn. Mrs. Cherry, whose information was from descendants, said Margaret Vance married first George Lynn and second Mr. Bancroft. Nancy died soon after her daughter was born, about 1778-79.
