"Levi G. JONES, farmer and blacksmith, Newtown, born in Hamilton county, Ohio, July 12, 1821, was the son of Jonathan and Nancy (CAUGHRON) JONES." --Beckwith, History of Fountain Co. (1881), p.267.

Nancy's name appears to have been COCHRAN rather than CAUGHRON. See John COCHRAN and William COCHRAN, 1820 Hamilton Co., OH, census, p.144, Sycamore Twp., on the same page as Jonathan's mother, Mary JONES, and his brother, Isaiah JONES; also Joseph COCHRAN and Thomas COCHRAN, p.145. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Subj: WILKINSON / RUTHERFORD Family File: Jones & "Caughron" Date: 10/31/00 6:55:30 AM Central Standard Time From: lboorom@@fuse.net (LBoorom)

Browsing through your GedCom uploaded to RootsWeb, Wilkinson / Rutherford Family File, I found your entries for Jonathan JONES to which you raise a question regarding his wife Nancy. I recently viewed and copied and/or transcribed 3 COCHRAN wills in Hamilton Co., OH, as follows:
John COCHRAN, probated 1837, names daughter Sarah HARRIS and grandchildren Andrew Jackson HARRIS & Mary HARRIS, daughter Nancy JONES, sons Thomas & Nathaniel, and children of 3 dec'd sons: William, John, and Joseph.
Richard COCHRAN, probated 1836, appears to also be a son of John above, but must have been childless. He names "eldest sister Sarah HARRIS," "sister Nancy JONES," "brother Thomas COCHRAN," "youngest brother Nathaniel," and brother William dec'd, and nieces Hester & Mary COCHRAN (my notes aren't clear, but I think it said these were children of William???).
Nathaniel, probated 1845, names "nephew Benjamin RADABAUGH." Benjamin RADABAUGH (s/o James RADABAUGH & Susan PRICE) married a Mary COCHRAN who may be the same named in Richard's will above.

Hopewell Cemetery on Montgomery Rd. in Sycamore Twp. has the following:

 JONES, Nancy consort of Jonathan ~ 40y 8m 6d ~ 22 Jan 1838 ~ OLD [b. May 16, 1797]
 Nathaniel COCHRAN, Vet of War of 1812 ~ 52 yr. ~ 6 Dec 1845 [b. ca. 1793]
 Rosannah COCHRAN, consort of John ~ 69y 10m 20d ~ 22 Sept. 1832 [b. Nov. 2, 1762]
 John COCHRAN ~ 99y 8m 2d ~ 19 Feb 1837 [b. 17 Jun 1737]
Richard is listed from the cem. records, without a gravestone and no date

So, it would appear that your Nancy 'CAUGHRON' aka COCHRAN JONES was the daughter of John & Rosannah COCHRAN.

I just recently copied the census for Jonathan in 1850, Hamilton Co., Sycamore Twp., p.380, as follows: house 78 family 80, Jonathan JONES age 51 b. OH farmer RE: 2000; John A. age 26 b. OH mason; Mary age 16 b. OH; Nancy age 13 b. OH; James W. JONES age 22 mason b. OH (unsure if James W. is a son, he appears out of order!).
My interest in the COCHRAN family is through several connections to my husband's ancestor Aaron BORAM / BOORAM. It appears that he may have had a daughter Mary who married before or about a COCHRAN (poss. a Samuel who may also be a son of John & Rosanah) and then married her step-brother Daniel REMLEY in 1818. As well, Thomas COCHRAN, son of John & Rosannah, married Rebecca HARRIS (d/o Amos & Elizabeth HARRIS; Amos HARRIS may be a relative of Aaron BORAM's 1st wife). Thomas & Rebecca's daughter Elizabeth then married her 1st cousin William BORAM who was a grandson of both Aaron BORAM & Amos HARRIS. (confusing huh?) Further, another grandson of Aaron's, Daniel BOOROM, married Margaret RADABAUGH, sister of Benjamin RADABAUGH mentioned above.
I'm still trying to put the pieces together on the COCHRANs of Sycamore / Symmes Twp., but don't have much more to share with you on the Jonathan JONES family at this time. Hope the above helps anyway. Regards, Linda Boorom
