From an unknown newspaper clipping (Nathan Haines Baile Journal):
"In Memorium
Sister Nancy J. Roop, eldest daughter of John and Sarah L. Baile, was born in Carroll Co., Maryland September 27, 1839, died March 1, 1922. Death was due to a general breakdown.
When about 9 years of age, the family moved to Preble County, Ohio. In her nineteenth year, she married Ezra Roop. In 1862 they moved to Warrensburg, Missouri, purchasing a farm northwest of that city. During the perilous times of the war, they sold their farm and returned to Ohio until 1867. On their return to Missouri, they purchased a farm south of Warrensburg.
Her husband died in 1910 and her home burned in 1913. Since that time she resided with her oldest daughter. Of 10 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters survive, with 33 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
For nearly 63 years, she was an active member of the Church of the Brethren. Being an extensive reader and having an active mind much above the ordinary, she was a strong influence for the home and the advancement of the kingdom of God. It was a delight to her to entertain those who were giving largely of their time and thought to the work of the church, and she tried to become more efficient by such associations.
Her home was also an uplift to those less gifted. Being possessed of some means, she was given to helping the needy and supporting the various endeavors of the church. She opened her home to 16 orphans for various periods of time, until other places could be found. One of this number remained from infancy to death, at 17 years of age. She was also instrumental in getting others to open their homes to orphans.
Soon after locating in her late home, she introduced herself to Eld. S. S. Mohler, as he was passing, and urged that the Brethren hold meetings in the community. From this beginning, there was later organized the Warrensburg- now the South Warrensburg- congregation. She and her husband donated the land and helped freely in the building of the house. For over 40 years she was a regular attendant at the services, and most of the time a teacher in the Sunday School."
