Created by AccuSoft Corp My mother has 7 older sisters and 2 older brothers.A younger sister died as A child. Her father deserted the family when she was A child and mom went to live with an older sister,Nettie.Aunt Nettie had children older than mom and was not always fair in her treatment of the children, being partial to her own.Example:Mom's mom went to work in A mining camp cooking to support herself and the children still at home. One Easter she sent mom A yellow Easter bonnet.Nettie gave it to her daughter.I don't believe mom ever got over that. That must have been exciting getting that hat in the mail and A big disapointment having it taken away so quickly. My mom was fortunate in that she was able to get an education, even learning the piano.I don't know when, as I can't make this come out right. She was born in 1909, Margaret had to have been born in 1926 .I only know that she said that she had gone to business college and she did know short hand. The reason i'm so sure of this is because when she and my dad divorced my mother got A job in an all night diner washing dishes.I never gave up until she went to business school, brushed up on her typing skills and shorthand and went to work in an office. My mother had an extremely hard life with my father. She lost all contact with her family and was trapped. Some things I remember are her dying a couple of feedsacks blue and making A dress. That is the only dress I ever remember my mom in when I was growing up.She would walk behind A team of horses until noon, then go to the house and try to make something to eat out of nothing. Then back to the field to do the same thing over again, only this time there were chores to do.Every 2 weeks there was A milk check from Pet Milk and Bruce and mom would do chores without him.The reason being that he would be drunk and not come home.On rainy days he could'nt get the old car up the hill.He would sit there and cuss and holler until mom came with the team to pull him out.We were all awake and she would get out of the old creaky bed, shake Bruce to help with the team and send us to the woods where we would be safe in case he was in A bad mood.I don't know how she did it.I only saw her stand up to him once.He was kicking and beating Bruce because he could'nt find the hammer.Mom came out of the house with the gun and told him if he did'nt leave Bruce alone she would shoot. He just laughed at her but he went on about his business. They were share croppers and there was'nt anything to share. So in my 7th grade at school they left us and went to Kansas and lined up work in the oil fields. One day we just walked off.We walked out of that shack ,taking nothing with us because we had nothing .They got on A bus to Kansas and I went to school.I finished 7th grade and stayed with my beloved Aunt Grace,my fathers sister. The only thing that we left behind was our 2 dogs.We left them with A neighbor and they soon grieved themselves to death.I nearly did too.The farm was all I knew and the dogs were part of me.They loved me more than everyone else put together and my heart was truly broken.I missed the cows and horses but most of all I missed my beloved Nig.My mom divorced my dad shortly after we moved to Kansas. We all had to go to work.Mom, Margaret and I went to work in A laundry and soon after I quit school.Life became better for my mom after that.We contacted her family and consequently went to Colorado to visit.I met her father ,who was an old man by then.I know he felt bad because he cried when he saw mom.He gave each of us $5.00.That was the only time we ever saw him and the only grandparent I was ever to see. Mom met Everette Bair and they soon married. He was A character but always good to my mother. After she married him she was able to putter in her garden, raise chickens and do whatever she liked. Her last years were happy.Who can ask for anything more?
