    Moses John DeRossett (1726-1767), a physician, was a justice of the peace for New Hanover County and mayor of Wilmington in 1766. In the French and Indian War, in 1754, he served as a captain in the North Carolina Regiment under Col. James Innes and saw action in Virginia.
