Morris Somes was born 16--, probably in England, the birthplace of most of the early settlers of this country. When he came to this country is not known, but he was one of the early settlers in Gloucester, Mass., being a proprietor of land on the east side of Mill river where he probably lived. By his wife, Margerie, who died in Gloucester, [Jan.] 22, 1646, [Morris] Somes had one son and two daughters. He married his second wife, Elizabeth, daughter of John Kendall of Cambridge, June 26, 1648; and by her, he had three sons and four daughters. She died Jan. 4, 1697; he died Jan. 13, 1689, leaving an estate of 198 lbs, 6s.
