Although the article in the New York Times says that Morgan's mother "has been an inmate of a lunatic asylum for many years," she is enumerated with the family in the 1880 census.

   "Morgan Cole, 40 years old, committed suicide by hanging himself in the cellar of his residence, on New-street, Belleville, N.J., yesterday afternoon. It is probable that he was suffering from hereditary insanity, as his mother has been an inmate of a lunatic asylum for many years. He leaves a widow and three children."

   "Morgan Cole, an employé at Montgomery and Co.'s copper works, in Belleville, N.J., hanged himself yesterday in a cellar."

   “Morgan Cole, employed at Montgomery & Co’s Copper Works, Belleville, went home Monday afternoon, and, unnoticed went into the cellar and hung himself to a beam. He had been hanging nearly an hour before he was discovered and life was extinct. It is supposed he was demented when he hung himself. He leaves a wife and three children.”
