Obituary MINNIE ELLEN BURNS Stevensville -- Minnie Ellen Burns, 87, formerly a longtime resident of Stevensville, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2002, at the Whitcomb Tower, St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Road, Stevensville. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Eugene Lewis and the Rev. Tamara Williams. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kerley & Starks Funeral Home, 802 Main St., St. Joseph. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member, and to Hospice at Home. Minnie was born June 28, 1914, in River Forest, Ill., to Henry A. and Bertha (Harms) Strouse. She graduated from Stevensville High School in 1932 and was the center on the girls basketball team. Minnie attended Western State College, which later became Western Michigan University. In the 1930s and 1940s, she was a buyer and saleslady for the former Rimes and Hildebrand Store and was saleslady at the candy counter at the former G.C. Murphy Co., St. Joseph. On April 28, 1943, she married Theodore G. Katzbach. He preceded her in death during World War II in the Philippines, on Nov. 21, 1944. On Oct. 17, 1947, she married Richard C. Burns. Together, they were charter members of the Southwestern Michigan Car Collectors Club and were particularly proud of their 1965 red Ford Mustang convertible. They spent their last few remaining years enjoying their beautiful view of the lake and river from their room at the Whitcomb Tower. Richard preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1999. Survivors include her sons -- Theodore J. Katzbach of St. Joseph and John A. (Catherine) Burns of Petaluma, Calif.; grandchildren -- Ricky Burns and Tom Burns, both of Petaluma, and Jeff Katzbach of Memphis, Tenn. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John H.
