Milton Clarke Whitford, age 61, prominent traveling man and sportsman and known throughout the state, died in his home in Milton at 3 a.m. Saturday, from a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered following a trip to the northern part of Wisconsin in company with Mrs. Whitford, from which they had just returned.
Mr. Whitford, son of the late Rev. and Mrs. William C. Whitford, former president of Milton College, was born in Milton on Sept. 17, 1866. He was united in marriage to Miss [Mrs.] Myrtle Bleasdale in Milton Junction on June 19, 1897. One child, William O. was born to this union on April 10, 1904.
Surviving Mr. Whitford are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. A. E. Jones by a former marriage of Mrs. Whitford, and Mrs. F. W. Tanfield by a former marriage of Mr. Whitford, and the son, W. O. Whitford of Janesville. Two grandsons also survive.
Mr. Whitford was a member of the I. O. O. F., the United Commercial Travelers, the Iowa State Traveling Men's association and the Izaac Walton league.
Funeral services were held in the home in Milton at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. MacLellan, Rosendale, and Prof. Edwin Shaw of Milton officiated at the home. The Odd Fellows held the services at the grave. The pall bearers were Frank E. Birch, Cedar Falls, Iowa; Dr. F. C. Binnewies, Janesville; Dr. C. E. Perry, and Dr. Walter Sweeney, Milwaukee; George Monks, Rockford, Ill.; and Elbert Marsh, Madison.
