When his father, Benjamin Drummond and mother, Mary Ann Shahan, got too old to take care of themselves, Melton brought them to Walnut Grove. He rented a house for them and took care of them. Melton's wife, Amanda lost $800.00 when the bank went broke after his death. Melton gave land for Bunker Hill Baptist Chruch. After he died, the church disbanded and the land was returned to his children who sold it. Just before he died he had hardening of the arteries and lost his mind. Loved ones found him in the bathroom trying to cut this throat with a razor. They took him to an insane assylum. He wouldn't eat and died in a month.

"I was curious about the Ai name. The Bible tells us it was a city in Biblical times. Joshua 7:2-5 'Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven on the east side of Bethel. When the men returned to Joshua, they said, "We don't need very many men - say two or three thousand. They are but few." The men of Ai chased Joshua's men back and they fled before the men of Ai.'
