From Jerry Spencer: "The Mills Piland family moved from Gates County, North Carolina, to Madison Co., TN where David Baker's family was also living and they all came to Texas. Mills Piland came to Texas before 1839 when he acquired a land grant in that part of Red River County which became Lamar County.
