White, DICTIONNAIRE GENEALOGIQUE DES FAMILLES ACADIENNES; 1636-1714; Moncton, New Brunswick, Centre d'Etudes Acadiennes, 1999, 2 vols.; pp. 401 & 791; own copy. #1:He was a captain of Port-Lajoie, a carpenter. !BIRTH-NAME-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-RESIDENCES-DEATH: Arsenault, Histoire et Genealogie, p. 983-984 (Beaubassin). Born in 1663, doubtlessly the son of Pierre LARCHÉ (of the parish of Saint-Pierre-de-Montdidier, diocese of Beauvais, France) & Adrienne LANGLOIS. He married around 1690, and settled at Port-Lajoie, Ile Saint-Jean in 1720, with his family, except for eldest son Michel, who lived at Beaubassin. A note inscribed in the parish register of Port Lajoie, dated 17 Jul 1737, says: "Michel Haché dit Gallant, married to Anne CORMIER, was plunged into the broken ice at the mouth of the river du Nord [at Rocky Point, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island], on April 10 of the present year, and has only been recovered today." A footnote on p. 983 further cites a book by Patrice GALLANT, Michel Haché-Gallant et ses descendants. Centre d'Etudes Acadiennes, 1970. In it was stated that Pierre Larché, Michel's father, would have been one of the "engagés" working in the fish industry of Nicolas DENYS, when he died around 1667. Orphaned, young Michel at age 5 would have been consigned by DENYS to his "gendre" Michel Leneuf de la Valliere, seigneur of Beaubassin. Around 1676, when Leneuf took possession of his seigneurie, he brought with him the young Michel Larché (become HACHÉ), age 13, who later became his first lieutenant, under the name Michel HACHÉ dit GALLANT. !FATHER-BIRTH-RESIDENCES: E-mail posting at <[email protected]> #210 on 8 May 1999 by Michel LEGER ([email protected]). Michel LARCHÉ HACHÉ dit GALLANT was born on the island of Miscou, just off the northeast shore of New Brunswick, east of the Acadian peninsula. It was his father (unproven) Pierre LARCHÉ who supposedly came from the town of Montdidier, parish of Saint-Pierre, bishopric of Beauvais, France. The Quebec baptismal record states that Michel was born to a european father and an indian mother (une sauvagesse). He grew up in Quebec, came to Beaubassin in employ of Michel LeNEUF, married there to Anne CORMIER, daughter of Thomas & Madeleine GIROUARD. He moved to Ile Saint Jean in 1720, died 10 Apr 1737. XXIII, no. 4 (Oct 1994); P. 118; own copy; these facts have been verified by the Centre d'Etudes acadiennes as accurate. "The father of Michel was Pierre LARCHE, married to 'Esquimaude' a female Eskimo, per data at the baptism of Michel in Trois-Rivieres." !BIRTH-PARENTS-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-RESIDENCES-DEATH: Guy C. Bugeon, "The History of an Acadian Family," in LE REVEIL ACADIEN; vol. XIII, no. 3 (Aug 1997); p. 62; own copy. Michel HACHÉ, son of Pierre & Adrienne LANGLOIS of Montdidier, Departement of l'Oise, France. Around 1690 he married at Beaubassin to Anne CORMIER, daughter of Thomas & Madeleine GIROUARD; ten children on the 1714 census of Beaubassin. By Nov 1721 they had moved to Port-Lajoie, Isle St. Jean, with four children. Michel was named captain of the port, an important post. On 10 Apr 1737 he fell through the ice while crossing the Riviere-du-Nord; the body was not recovered until 17 Jul 1737, when he was buried. !CHRISTENING: Did he act as sponsor to Magdaleine Michelle MERCIER, born in APR 1682 at Beaubassin?
