MICHAEL STUCKER b. 12-23-1759 in Berks County, Pennsylvania; d.3-25-1830 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He made a will September 5,1829, recorded in Bk C - 276 at Madison, Indiana - see pamphlets ofJefferson County, Indiana early will 1811 and 1852. m. 3-1-1785 NancyVaughn who was b. 6-30-1761; she d. 10-19-1838; both were buried in theold Stucker graveyard about 8 miles southwest of Madison, Ind. Michael's military record in Virginia is the same ashis father's - I.P.D. 36, and can be obtained from the Virginia StateLibrary, Richmond, VA. Michael was listed among the best soldiers at thetime of the siege at Bryant's Station in August 1782. Michael was on the tax lists Fayette Co., Kentucky 1788 before there wasa Woodford Co. He received land from his mother in 1793 (see propertytransfers) Woodford County a part of her pre-exemption. He was inWoodford County, Kentucky census in 1810 with eleven in family. He wasin Jefferson County, Indiana Territory by 1815 as he sold land on January20, 1816 showing his residence as being in Jefferson County.
His family Bible lists his children and grandchildren's births, deathsand some marriages. There are some of his brother Jacob's family alsorecorded in his Bible. (This Bible is now in possession of Mrs. Will S.Stucker, Fisher, Illinois as it descended to her husband through channelnoted on page 1 of photostat record). The name of Michael's children astaken from his Bible follow: .... (Stucker, Essie 1957 p. 31).
NOTES: Book II George Stucker did not contain the 218 family as theIndiana relatives had lost track of him - evidently when he moved toMissouri before 1843. When I first saw this list of Michael's children it was in a Biblebelonging originally to Jacob Stucker, father of Ruth - Muldoon - Boll,Edinburg, Ind. in 1949, and it was the first I knew of my greatgrandfather's sisters and bothers. I copied the list at that time, andhave been continually tracing the various branches of the family rightdown to early 1956. It has been reported that Elizabeth Bowman's father was a Major HermanBowman in the Revolution at the time when George and Michael wereenlisted in Virginia in 1780. There may be an erroneous report on thisname of Herman as I have been advised by several authorities this namedoes not show on Revolutionary records in Virginia or Kentucky. E.S.(Stucker, Essie 1957 p.31, 32).
Mrs. Pearl Reasor (214212 in Part 1) said her second great grandfatherwas "Captain John." However, Pearl Reasor's family is 214-MichaelStucker, a son of Michael and Nancy as inscribed in Michael's Bible onpage 19 and under "B". No William Stucker was recorded in Micahel'sBible as being his son, but the Bible did show William's marriage toRosannah Mitchell in 1813, as well as the birth of several of William'schildren. It is an established fact that Michael and his brother Jacob(23) lived close by in Jefferson county. I point out this statement asEmeline Hemphill said she thought there was a Michael in John's family.Since the will of Michael Stucker (who d. 1830) designates his sons:"John, Jacob and William", we are wondering what kind of mix up there hasbeen in the family records of Michael b. 1759 and John b. 1762. If itwere not for Michael's Bible reference page 19 "B", we might concludefrom the will that some error had been made but the Bible plainlyspecified "Michael Stucker, son of Michael and Nancy Stucker, was bornSept. 7th, 1791", therefore we leave our records as per Michael's Biblerecord. We also note that Michael Stucker b. 1759 call himself "Senior"on page 21 "E". (Stucker, Essie 1957 p. 113).
