Mertie Waldron was raised around the Maple Rapids area. At one time or another she lived in Sheridan, Maple Rapids and Crystal.

Mertie was married 5 times according to her son Donald Lional Beals. First to Frank Dingwell, with whom she had two children, Cyrus and Kittie, these children for some reason or another were pretty much raised by Mertie's parents and went by the last name of Waldron. Her second marriage was to Hilton Howard Hulbert, they had one child Hilton Howard Hulbert Jr. She then married Charles William Beals, 2 children were born of that marriage, Donald Lional and a baby girl named Mary. Mary died when she was young. Her next husband was a man that her son couldn't recall his name. Her last marriage was to George Hiner.

As a child I remember going to see our grandma Hiner at her home in Crystal, Michigan. I remember there were 3 houses right side by side that she and grandpa Hiner lived in at one time or another. There was also Crystal Lake just a block from their house. All of us kids loved to swin in the lake and play on the playground near her house. I also remember tasting honey that was in the comb. Grandma Hiner died of cancer in 1959.
