- ↑ Great confusion is caused because there are birth records for two daughters of Robert Parish named Mary Parish: the one cited, and one on p. 179: "PARRIS, Mary, d. Robert, 8 : 7 : [16]74. CT.R.". The eldest one is generally named Mercy "in later records", was obviously the only one of them old enough to have married Josiah Richardson in 1687, and is the one whose birth would match the age at death of Jonathan Butterfield's wife Mercy. According to Source:Davis, Walter Goodwin. Ancestry of Sarah Hildreth, 1773-1857, p. 50, the other one died young: she is not mentioned in her father's 1709 will: of the two, only Marcy Richardson is named. Source:Vinton, John Adams. Richardson Memorial, p. 48, is one of those confused, saying her name on the records was Mary Parris, which refers to the wrong one, and then saying "The widow, Mercy Richardson, died April 25, 1743." without mentioning the second marriage that is required to match the death record found on that date.
