Mrs. Melvina W. Brown, 85, of 316 North Washington, died Wednesday in Grace Hospital, Detroit, after a long illness. Mrs. Brown had been a member of First Congregational Church for 60 years and was active in its Northend Circle until failing health restricted her activities. Melvina Ward was born June 6, 1855, at Niagara Falls, N.Y., the daughter of Elisha E. and Mary Cobb Ward. She came to Michigan as a child and to Saginaw in 1872. She was married Sept. 9, 1874 to Joseph C. Brown, who died May 4, 1907. She leaves two daughters Mrs Edwin E. Coe of Saginaw and Mrs Leonard J. Walley of Detroit; a brother Oscar S. Ward of Alma; two grandsons, Charles E. and Robert W. Coe, of Detroit, and two great grandchldren. A son Charles O. Brown of Detroit died last Saturday. The funeral will take place at 2 p. m. Saturday in memorial Room of the First Congregational Church. Rev. Thornton B. Penfield, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in Forrest Lawn.
