MELVINA HARTMANN BYRNES (1916-1995)

My Aunt Mel was my godmother - and favorites aunt. When I spent summers with my Grandmother Hartmann in Dyer, IL, Mel was working days in Gary, IN and spending her free time making sure I had an enjoyable vacation. I remember attending her wedding, her visits to our house during WWII, and visits to her home in Homewood, IL and Lake of Four Seasons in Indiana. She was a wonderful athlete as a young woman, and we spent many hours talking sports. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a very thoghtful person. She wrote a book of her memories, "Back Home Again in Indiana", which is a part of our family history files.
