From the September 19, 1958, edition of the Dubuque (IA) Telegraph Herald Truck Driver Dies After Heart Attack While on Road Melvin H. Maas, 42, a driver for the Independent and Auto Wrecking Salvage Co., suffered a heart attack Friday while driving his truck on Highway 61 near Lancaster, Wis. The truck went out of control and through a garden at the Charles Zellinger home there before coming to a stop. Coroner Dallas Wepking and the rescue squad were called and administered artificial respiration, but were unable to revive him. Maas lived at 1451 Cedar. Friends may call after 7 pm Saturday at the Strueber Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced. He was born at Dubuque, son of Joseph and Catherine Jellison Maas. Surviving are his wife, Marie Barrett Maas, Dubuque; three sons, Melvin J. Jr., Joseph Robert and Marty Maas, all of Dubuque; four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Catherine) Davis, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Kramer, Marlene Maas, all of Dubuque, and Mrs. Robert (Rose) Heinze, Peosta; seven grandchildren; five brothers, William, Clifton and Joseph Maas, all of Dubuque, Raymond Maas, Farley and Minor Maas, Graf; five sisters, Jessie Maas, Mrs. Morris Blum, Mrs. Horace Selle, Mrs. Frank Muntz, all of Dubuque and Mrs. Donald Keene, East Dubuque, Ill. From the September 21, 1958, edition of the Dubuque (IA) Telegraph Herald Melvin H. Maas Funeral services for Melvin H. Maas, 42, of 1451 Cedar, will be held at 9 am Monday at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Strueber Funeral Home. Mr. Maas died of a heart attack at 8:30 am Friday while driving a truck near Lancaster, Wis. |
