Melvin Collins

A Celebration of Life for Melvin Edward Collins, age 77, will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2012 at Bemis First Baptist Church with Brother Gerald Smith, Brother John Norvell and Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Springs Cemetery near Mercer, TN with Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Collins died April 13, 2012.

He was born in Jackson, TN, son of the late Henry Beecher and Edna Grace Hill Collins. Mr. Collins was a veteran of the U.S. Army Tennessee National Guard and a member of Bemis First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step daughter, Ginger Castlelaw; two sisters, Dorothy Collins and Louise Collins; brother, J.W. Collins.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Doris Ann Utley Collins; two daughters, Johnnie (Ricky) Wylie and Kathy (Jan) Kail; two step daughters, Joan Newman and Laura Conquest; step son, Robert McGuffin; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including nephew and caregiver, Richard Collins.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be directed to Bemis First Baptist Church.

Visitation with the family will be from 4-7 p.m., today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.
