January 13, 1917; Saturday. Melville Miner dies. TRUCKEE REPUBLICAN, JANUARY 18, 1917 DEATH COMES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS

Melville Miner, father of Von C. Miner of Truckee, died about 8:30 A.M., Saturday, January 13th. Mr. Miner had been confined to his home for about two weeks on account of a severe cold but during the last few days had greatly improved. Friday evening he was in excellent spirits and retired about 10 P.M. He slept soundly until 4:20 A.M. when he was awakened by a dull heavy pain in the region of the heart and lungs. The doctor was called and Mr. Miner was given treatment.

He then went to sleep about 7 A.M. apparently relieved. About 9:20 A.M. his son entered his father's room and found that the old gentleman had passed to the immortal realm beyond.

Mr. Miner was born near Elwood, Indiana in 1839; in 1897 he removed to Oklahoma and in 1904 to California. He was the son of Richard Miner, a pioneer resident and lawyer of Indiana; his mother was Lydia M. Jackson, a native of Indiana and a descendent of the Jackson family of North Carolina of which Andrew Jackson belonged. He was married in 1872 to Francis Cummings who died in 1896. Three children survive him; two sons, Vess who is now in Alaska; Von, a resident of Truckee; a daughter, Mrs. Jas. P. Finan of Needles, California; and a sisterm Mrs. Dora Barnes of Elwood, Indiana.

He was well informed in history and was much interested in the world's events and took a great interest in reading current publications of the world's progress. During his younger days he was a much interested worker and member for the society of Masons.

Funeral Services were held at the Methodist church last Wednesday and the body was interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

To the sorrowing relatives we extend with the entire community our earnest sympathy in their sad bereavement.
