NAME: His first and middle name come from his paternal grandparents. Maxwell from Edwin Maxwell Taylor and D for Dolphus from A. D. Millirons. My understanding is that he never used the name Dolphus, opting for the middle initial "D.".

INFO: Cemetery record for Pleasant Hill Cemetery indicates a child of "Max " Taylor was buried there, 8/20/40. This is an unnamed stillborn child.

GEOGRAPHY: Grew up in Cloud County, KS, and spent early years of married life there as a farmer. Ed and Sam were born there. He then went to work in pipeline construction, causing him to travel. Nola was born in Pennsylvania during this stage of their lives. Then, to Salina for many years, in construction. Then, to California, living in Palm Springs for many years where he died. He was involved in the construction trade in California until he retired.

PROTECTIVE BROTHER: Norris Taylor, Sr. recalled the following episode regarding his older brother Max: Norris mostly went to schools in town, but there was a time when he went to country school. During this time, there was an occasion, for whatever reason, for the one-room schoolhouse teacher to lay a hand on Norris. Now, Norris had polio at six months and Max was protective of his "little" brother. When Norris got home and told the family about what happened at school, Max had him get in their wagon. They hitched up the horses and drove to the school or the teacher's home. Max let that teacher know in no uncertain terms that he had better not touch his little brother again, or that teacher would have him to answer to. You would have had to have known Max to know that he was the type that when he spoke, people listened; and when he made a threat, it was not idle. Norris said that teacher never laid a hand on him again. This episode took place in the 1920's or 30's.
