Facts and Events
Max Rolfson Llewellyn was born on September 4, 1911. He was the second child and second son of John Reese Llewellyn and Hazel Frandsen. Max was a hard studying, atheletic young man in Salt Lake City. He attended West HighSchool and then graduated in 1934 from the University of Utah with a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. Max spent his entire work career in the electric-utility industry. After his marriage to Alberta Neilson, he first worked for Southern Utah Power and Light in Cedar City, Utah. During WWII, they then moved to Burbank and worked for the City of Burbank as a power engineer to help the war effort. Max was unable to enter the service because of a severe loss of hearing from an infection in his teens. In 1947, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in an era prior to air conditioning. He worked for Arizona Edison which merged in 1952 (approx.) with two other electric utilities to become Arizona Public Service (APS). He rose to chief engineer and eventually retired in 1976 as the Executive Vice President of Operations. Max was a championship amateur golfer. He won the Arizona Seniors trophy in the early 70's. |
