FRANKLINTON, LA Mavis Lutica Miley Creel, 77, a resident of the
Springhill community, was called home yesterday afternoon in Riverside Medical Center. She was an active
member of Clifton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, was an active WMU member, and sang in
the church choir. A retired Riverside Medical Center and Heritage Manor LPN, she was an avid
gardener, cook and minister to her neighbors, family members said.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Henry L. Creel of Franklinton; a son and daughter-in-law,
Phillip and Anna Dell Magee Creel of Franklinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bruce M.
Thomas of Natchitoches; a daughter-in-law, Abigail Reynolds Creel of Franklinton; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Sadie and Albert Johnston of Bogalusa and Mildred Camp
of Franklinton; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Aaron Creel; two sisters,
Alma Carpenter and Viola and three brothers-in-law, Johnny Carpenter, Melvin
Wehmeyer, and Shelby Camp.
Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home today from 6-9 p.m. and will
continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service, to be conducted from the funeral home
chapel at 11 a.m. Revs. Ed Griffin, Marcus Rosa, and Tony Hicks will officiate at the service. Burial will
follow in the Springhill Magee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandson-in-law, Brandon Creel, Bradley
Creel, Bevin Creel, Bruce E. Thomas, Brent Thomas, Ryan Creel and Ben Moak.
