Matthew Street’s origins have yet to be established for certain. One possibility is that he was the Matthew Street who was baptised on 8th August 1731 at Stotfold in Bedfordshire.

Matthew’s first confirmed sighting is on 2nd October 1755, when he married Mary Elsom at Stotfold.

Matthew and Mary went on to have nine children baptised at Stotfold between 1757 and 1773, although sadly five of the nine children died young.

Matthew died in 1777, being buried at Stotfold on 27th April. He was described as a labourer at the time of his death. Mary survived him by nearly 21 years.
