Mary Elsom’s origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 2nd October 1755, when she married a labourer called Matthew Street at Stotfold in Bedfordshire.

Mary and Matthew went on to have nine children baptised at Stotfold between 1757 and 1773, although sadly five of the nine children died young.

Matthew died in April 1777. Mary survived him by nearly 21 years. She died in 1798, being buried at Stotfold on 21st January.
