Van was son of Matthew Ostrander Loree and Frances Maria Ostrander. They lived in Rockwood, Ontario to about 1909, Redickville, Ontario 1910, and then built houses in Toronto pre WW I. Van served in the CEF in Europe during WW I. His father died in 1915 and his mother was living at 221 Western Ave. Van supposedly delivered produce from the farm to the Toronto market and visited Doll on these occasions.
