Born in 1663, he arrived at Port Royal, Acadia in 1688. Mathieu was a clerk, councillor of the king and civil and criminal lieutenant-general in Acadia. He married around 1689 to Jeanne THIBODEAU; nine children are listed. !OCCUPATION-IMMIGRATION-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-RESIDENCES: E-mail posting at <[email protected]> on 21 Aug 1998 by Fredrica Robinson GIVAN ([email protected]). Mathieu de GOUTIN, king's counsellor, lieutenant general for justice in Acadia and Ile Royale (toady Cape Breton Island). He was born in France, came to Acadia in 1688, soon married "foolishly, a peasant's daughter" (in the words of Governor Des Friches de MENEVAL). She was Jeanne TIBAUDEAU, daughter of Pierre & Jeanne TERRIOT; they had twelve children. After the surrender of Port-Royal to Francis NICHOLSON in 1710, de GOUTIN returned to France with his family in 1711. In 1714 he was appointed king's writer at Ile Royale. He died there on Christmas Day, 1714, after which his widow and children received rations from the crown. The eldest son Francois-Marie also was in the civil administration of Ile Royale; at least five daughters married officers, four in Ile Royale.
