Facts and Events
Name Mathew Eakin
Gender Male
Birth? Abt 1754 Augusta, Virginia, United States
Marriage to Margaret Kelso
Death? Aft 1790 Blount, Tennessee, United States

Mathew was the son of Walter Eakin and possibly a Lyle female. Mathew is the ONLY of that name as an Eakin until well into the 19th Century. When Walter dies in 1768, Mathew is declared to be an orphan and John Lyle is appointed as guardian for Mathew. Walter's nephews John and James Eakin do not appear to be considered as guardian for Mathew, nor was Walters present wife "Anne" last name unknown. It is highly probable that Mathew went to live with John Lyle's family.

I believe that Mathew met and married Margaret Kelso through the Lyle family. My reasoning is this:

- Margaret Kelso was likely taken to live with Mathew Lyle and his wife Esther Blair after her parents Alexander Kelso and Mary Blair were killed by the Indians at their mission in New Providence in abt 1760. I believe that Margaret's mother and Esther Blair to be kinswomen of some type, though I don't have evidence of that fact yet.

- All other Eakin males are accounted for in terms of wives and location so they could not be father of Jane and John or married to Margaret Kelso.

- Margaret Kelso and Mathew Eakin were of the same age, both born between 1754-1759.

- After Mathew's death (Bet 1790-95), Margaret remarried to a Thomas Sheddan on 23 Feb 1796. Margaret had an entire new family with Thomas Sheddan and there is a Sheddan Family Bible that chronicles the family births and marriages.

- I believe Mathew to have died in Blount Co Bet: 1790-1795.

More investigation is needed as to went Mathew sold his property willed to him by his father Walter. This date will establish when he and Margaret would have left Rockbridge Co for Blount County Tennessee.More investigation is also needed in Blount Co Tennessee on property purchased by Mathew.
