[10] Mary Wheatley, born circa 1704 - 17. Land records for Wheatley's Contentment suggest that Mary married William Greenwell. The original certificate for the tract was issued to John in 1707. In 1723, John's sons (John, Joseph, and Thomas) deeded that property to Greenwell, who died about 1727. After William's widow Mary married one Robert Hammett, the actual patent for the land was issued to William's only son and heir, the still minor James Greenwell. (Provincial Land Office (Patents) E12:196 and IL#A:362);(Perogative Court (Accounts) 8:465); (Perogative Court (inventories) 12:139).
Provincial Land Office (Patents) 21:196 cites the original deed as recorded in 7L:5 (since destroyed)

Greenwell, Little, Donnally, Hardy, and Allied Families by A. Louise Shelton also has William Greenwell s/o James Greenwell and Grace Taylor listed as marrying Mary (no last name given). The couple had one son, [26] James Greenwell.
But another Maryland Researcher, Charmaine Goemmer Welker, has furnished a pedigree chart which shows a George Greenwell (B. 1730) s/o Thomas Greenwell and Mary Medley married to Mary Ann Wheatley who died before 1755, and had a son Ignatius who was born in 1750 and died in Kentucky. Are these two Mary Wheatleys identical ? I do not know. The names are similar except for the middle name of the second. Perhaps one of you will have an answer.
