Now, again, the wife and widow of Matthew Beckwith is given by Miss Caulkins [in her History of New London] as Elizabeth; her name so appears in the Beckwith Genealogy, and even the Beckwith Notes--which sought to correct - make the same error. Her name appears in the probate mention as Mary, and this is confirmed by a records of the Hartford Court of a deposition bearing date 22 May 1665, when she testifies as "Mary Beckwith, aged about forty."
