Mary Frances Robinson married M. Truet Bishop, a preacher from Oklahoma, when she was 20 years old. When she was 40 years old she went into a coma that lasted 17 years, apparently until she died. Ernest Robinson (her father) encouraged Bishop to divorce Mary and make a new life for himself. When Bishop finally did remarry, Ernest gave him a new car and $5000 as a wedding present.

'Frances' as she was called) was 40 years old when she went in to have a lump on her thyroid removed, with a local anesthetic. Somehow, her spinal cord was severed and she was in a coma for 17 years, until she died.
