"Died at Lewis County General Hospital July 16, 1949. Attended Lowville Academy, then studied music at a convent in KS City, Mo. Upon her return, she taught school in Lowville, at Stowe Square, in Denmark, and in Martinsburg. Married John Dence in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barnum Schermerhorn. Following their marriage, they lived at Chases Lake until 1911, where Mr. Dence was manager for L. Crawford & Co. In fall of 1911 they built and moved into their present residence at S. State Street (Lowville).

She was a member of St. Peter's church, the ladies aid society, and the civic club. She served as a secretary and member of its finance and scholarship committees. During WWI she took an active part in red cross activities.

In 1929, they spent some time in Hot Springs, Ark., and New Orleans, La. From 1930 to 1941, they spent their winters at Hotel Ames, St. Petersburg, Fl. In 1932 she went with her husband to a shriners convention in San Francisco, following which they took an extended tour of the west including Mexico and Yellowstone National Park.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 from the Virkler Funeral Home and at 9:30 in St. Peter's Church. Burial was made in Rural cemetery. (Lowville Jrnl & Republican July 21, 1949).
