Surname Unknown

Her birth name is probably unknown. According to Ray Isbell "A couple of books (and internet sites) show his wife as Mary Nutter, widow Hooper. I think this is wrong. Others show two wives, Mary Nutter and Mary Hooper, but I think that is just further confusion. Burke's Peerage shows his wife Sarah Patterson. ... I think there may have been two wives rather than three. And the Mary Hooper who married Thomas Claggett was the widow of Richard Hooper (d. 1673 Calvert Co, MD), son of Henry Hooper (d. 1676 & left estates in both Calvert Co. and Dorchester Co.). Richard Hooper's brother Henry Jr. had a son Thomas Hooper who married Mary Nutter.) I may be guessing wrong, but I think that is what the confusion is about, that someone identified the wrong Mary Hooper. ... I would like to know more about Mary (Winter?) Hooper's maiden name and what records refer to her as a Winter or indicate she may have been a Winter."
