!OBIT: "Final Rites Held For Mrs. MUNKERS-Hazel Green, March 9-Saturday afternoon Mary Alice MUNKERS was laid to rest in the Murphy cemetery. Mrs. MUNKERS, the daughter of William and Sarah MURPHY, was born 70 years ago on her father's farm that adjoins the Murphy cemetery on the Silverton road. Mrs. MUNKERS was well known here, having lived here until l9l0, except some time in Idaho, when she moved to Portland. She was married to Henry MUNKERS in l890. Mrs. MUNKERS was lost on a trip to the Alaska gold field in l90l. Mrs. MUNKERS leaves sisters, Mrs. Nan STEPHENS, Hazel Green, Mrs. Amelia KEITH, MURPHY of Portland; Mrs. Laura BARNES of Seattle; Mrs. Ellen TRUENBACH of Huber; brother, George MURPHY of Salem. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. R. C. MANN. The MURPHY family came here in l865. The father and mother and four children went by train from Indiana to New York to take ship, crossing Panama by fall. When they docked at San Francisco they heard the news of President Lincoln's assassination. The father had been in the early gold rush to California." Oregon Statesman March l0, l937 l0:3 References
