1 BIO:According to the 1900 Young Co Tx census Mary Mildred was born in Mo in March 1853, had been married to John Beverly 16 years & borne 8 children, 6 of whom were living. Her mother was born in Va or Ky & father in NC. The first child we know of is James Robert born in 1886 in Tarrant Co Tx so it seems possible that she & John B were married in Mo but perhaps met in Tx.

As for the rumor that Mary Mildred's mother was related or was sister of Jesse James' mother I herein include the family tree of Jesse James which seems to refute that pretty conclusively: Robert James from Logan Co Ky, Rev. of the Baptist faith married Zerelda Cole of Fayette Co Ky in approx 1842, they moved to Clay Co Missouri where Alexander Franklin James was born 10 Jan 1842, Jesse Woodson James was born 5 Sept 1847 & Susie James was born in 1849. In 1851 the Rev. James went to Calif. to look for gold & died there a few months later. Zerelda Cole James married a 2nd time in 1853 but this did not last because he was mean to the children. A few years later she married Dr. Samuel who stood by them faithfully until his death. At the be- ginning of the Civil War Frank James joined with Quantrall's Raiders & Jesse at the age of 15 was beaten with a rope while he was out plowing a field while his step-father was hung because of their Rebel sympathies. After this Jesse tried to join Quantrall but was consid- ered too young. He dropped this until his mother & younger siblings were jailed for several weeks for the family's Rebel leanings. He then joined with Bloody Bill Anderson's guerillas until the end of the War. His half siblings were Sallie, John, Fannie Quantrill & Archie Payton Samuel; Archie was killed in 1874 in a raid on the family home in search of Frank & Jesse. Jesse was married in 1874 to the daughter of his father's sister, Zerelda Mimms born in Ky, raised in Clay Co Mo. Their children were Jesse Jr & Mary James. The members of Jesse's gang varied but included Jim Cummins, Thomas Coleman Younger, Robert Younger, & James Younger, Frank James & Clell Miller & Jim Berry.

To return to Millie: she & John B lived in Tarrant Co from 1886 to at least 1892 where Alma was born. Paul was born in 1895 in Bastrop Co near Smithville & Doc was born in 1898 in Bastrop Co or Yoakum Co. It is unconfirmed that they lived in Yoakum Co. but the census of 1900 shows them living in Young Co, Pct 4 on June 25 when T J Lamons called. It seems that it was perhaps during this period that she was diagnosed with tuberculosis because when the family arrived in Gaines Co in 1906 she was already dependent on the drugs of the time for it. She is said to have been a strict member of the Church of Christ therefore disapproving of dancing & music. Her husband was unable to deter her eldest son's drinking because of his own; one wonders how this circum- stance lived with her strict religion? Before her death in 1911 her daughters had taken over much of the housework & raising of the 2 younger boys. The Bowers family helped in the preparation of the body & the burial. Bonnie Bowers Berger recalls Millie as being patient & kind because she never complained about her illness. 1910 census finds the family in Gaines Co. & Millie at age 53 but if the 1853 Birthdate is correct she was 57; perhaps she was sensitive about being older than John B.

Birth information comes from 1900 Hunt Co Tx census; lists her father from NC & her mother from Va. 1910 Gaines Co census lists her mother from Ky. Wedding date from 1900 census. Death information comes from her tombstone in Seminole, Gaines, Tx & Bonnie Berger Bowers in 1991. Information on her family comes from Faye Plummer Eagle granddaughter of Millie's sister Ruth Ellen Morrow & Faye's daughter Mary Louise Simmons. The nickname of Millie came from her son-in-law, Shorty Greenhaw in 1982. July 1996: From Lou Pettigrew of Ft Worth, per my request searched for marriage info: Mary M Morrow & James B Wozencraft married 1 July 1883 Tarrant Co Tx, page 115 Marriage Book.
