Obit; The Daily Democrat, Marlin, Texas Monday, June 29, 1931 Pioneer Texas Resident Expires at Advanced Age Member of Prominent Southern Family Who Settled in This State Sixty Years Ago. Mrs. Mary McCauley Torbett, age 85, pioneer resident of Texas,died at 12:30 this morning in the Torbett Sanitarium following an illness of several weeks. Her husband, J. C. Torbett, died in Marlin in 1919. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Torbett has lived with a son, Dr. Oscar Torbett, in Marlin. In 1923 she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never fully recovered. Recently she has been confined to the hospital. Mrs.Torbett is survived by the following sons and daughters: J. S.Torbett of Gatesville, Mrs. J. W. Cook of Little Rock, Ark., Dr.J. W. Torbett, Dr. Oscar Torbett, and Frank Torbett of Marlin,and Mrs. Ada Armstrong of Bethany, Okla., Another son, Dr. BertTorbett, died here in 1916. She is also survived by one sister,Mrs. Vinie Prince, of Frafford, Alabama, sixteen grandchildren and a number of great-grand-children. Before her marriage she was Miss Mary Elizabeth Armstrong and was born at Ringold, Georgia, December 12, 1846. She was married February 5, 1865 to J. C. Torbett, a Confederate soldier, who served with the 11th Alabama regiment and was wounded at Gettysburg. In 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Torbett moved to Jacksonville, Texas, later moving to The Grove, Coryell county, where they lived many years and the children grew up. In 1908 they moved to McGregor, and were living there when Mr. Torbett died, since which time Mrs.Torbett has lived in Marlin. Funeral services were announced for this afternoon at five o'clock at the funeral home.
