Daughter of Joseph "Gul-Ka-Lu Pekowi-Metis" Martin and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ward
1st Cousin to Judge John Martin, Circuit Judge for the Coosawattee and Amohee Districts and Treasurer of the Cherokee Nation until 1837 when he emigrated to Oklahoma. He sold his Plantation in South Murray County to his 2nd Cousin and best friend Farish Carter which he renamed "Carter's Quarters". (US Army Corps of Engineers Special Report June 1995 John Martin's Home: Historical and Archaeological Investigations) Mary stayed with him after the death of Amos in 1846 where she is found on the 1850 census and died in 1857. Carter buried her beside Amos in the family cemetery there.
