Descendant of Capt. Mathew Manchester, of Rhode Island. Daughter of Richards Bowen Knight and Eliza Abbey Hill, his wife. Granddaughter of Elder Richard Knight and Rebecca Brayton his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Deacon Stephen Knight and Mary Manchester, his wife. Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Mathew Manchester and Freelove Gorton, his wife. Mathew Manchester, who had served in the early wars, was appointed, 1779, on the Committee of Inspection. He was born at Tiverton, 1720, and died, 1801, at Cranston.
