35 MARY4 HUTSENPILLER (same as above), called Molly, was born Dec. 27, 1795. At 18, on Feb. 11, 1813, she married a neighbor, Henry Surbaugh (1787-1854). (See p. 287.)
He was born in Shenandoah Co., Va. Family tradition says he fought in the War of 1812 and was taken prisoner. He was a “chain man” on a surveying team in 1814. His real estate was
valued at $17,000 in 1850. The town of E. Rainelle, W. Va., stands on part of the old Surbaugh property. Mrs. Surbaugh died June 2, 1854. They are buried at Grassy Meadows Presbyterian Church.
