....."Colonel Samuel Ware was married twice. his first wife, Mary Thompson, died in 1797.

HIS SECOND WIFE, WAS MARY GILLILAND. She survived her distinguished husband for more than twenty years, and according to descriptions left by her grandchildren, was a pretty, vivacious woman, fond of gaity and the center of an interesting group. Colonel Wear died April 3, 1817.

As a Captain at King's Mountain, a Colonel in the War of 1812, and an important man in the community from every point of view, his widow had a station to maintain and she seems to have enjoyed maintaining it. Colonel Wear did not apply for a pension, nor did his widow. his means and hers, following his death, were ample. She lived until som time in the early forties, the exact date of her death not being known.

Diana Wear. Pleasant M. Wear. Margaret Wear, and Minerva Wear.
