A member Wingfield, Meeting England to Chesterfield Monthly Meeting, New Caesara. "Very wealthy, intelligent and religious" from the records found he was most active in the founding of the Meeting. Under date of Jan. 29, 1677, Mahlon Stacy deeded a tract of land to Thomas Foulkes of Holingate Derbyshire, England. (Note: RHilands @aol.com saw a reference to Thomas Foulke in Besse Suffering under Derbyshire.) Thus it suggests they had great faith in adventure to a new country sight unseen. We do not find his will recorded and the ages would suggest that there were three Thomas Foulkes all living--the father, Thomas, d 1714; the son, Thomas Jr. md. 1688 and Thomas, the grandson md 1722. On the death of the eldest, the son dropped the "Jr." and the grandson then became "Thomas, Jr." All 3 having families, they needed three houses by 1723. l Thomas was Commissioner of lands in 1677, ll Thomas Jr. was High Sheriff of Burlington County 1711.
