Mary Ann Cassanet was born on 11th November 1818 and baptised a few weeks later in Bethnal Green, Middlesex, daughter of Mary Cassanet, formerly Mackay, and Peter Cassanet, a victualler.
On 29th October 1837, aged 18, Mary married John Timothy, an upholsterer. They went on to have four children together between 1841 and 1855. The 1841 census finds Mary and John living with John's mother and sister at Goldsmiths Place in Shoreditch.
By 1851 Mary and John had moved to Bermondsey, living at 4 Aldred Street with their children. Both Mary and John were working as mattress makers.
The 1861 census finds Mary and the children living at 38 Barbican in the City of London, with Mary working as an upholstress. John was living alone on census night in Newington. He died in 1863, aged 54.
The 1871 census finds Mary living with her youngest daughter, Agnes Mary, at 1 Anchor Street in Bermondsey. Mary was still living with Agnes in the 1881 census, by which time Agnes had married and had a child. They were living at 28 Paradise Street in Lambeth at this time.
Mary died in 1888 in Lambeth, aged 69.
