The claim that Francis Meadows wife was Mary Bell and that they married in 1758 in Orange County, Virginia[1] seems to be based on speculation resulting from a possible misreading of a compiled index of early Virginia marriages. There is no record of a marriage for Francis Meadows nor of a Mary Bell in the Orange County, Virginia, Marriage Registers, for 1757-1938, nor in the Virginia Compiled Marriages for 1740-1850, nor in Virginia Compiled Marriages, 1660-1800.

There is a record -- not a marriage -- dated 1758 for a Frances Meador who married an unknown man named Bell, based on a will in Essex County, Virginia,[3] but this is for the daughter of Thomas Meador and Elizabeth Wood and has no bearing on the name of the wife of Francis Meadows in Orange County, Virginia.

There was no such woman as "Mary Keziah Meadows," but two different women married to two different men. "
