According to her death certificate, she was the daughter of John Bart and Rosa Wilds of Germany.

 In the 1880 census for Center, Boone Co., Indiana, John Bart is 48, farmer from Germany; with wife Rosa 49 Germany; children are Albert 18; Anna 16; Joseph 12; (Richtea?) female 10; Katie 8; and Lenord 5 -- all born Indiana. Henry Bart 32 and Lucy 28, both born Indiana, are listed next door. {p. 165a} Their son Albert, age 18, may be the same one listed with Oscar's sister Martha Powell in Illinois.  
 According to an IGI, John Bart was born about 1828, son of John Bart and Catherine Ott, and married Rosa Wild, daughter of John Wild and Catherine Fisher, in 1854 in Boone Co., Indiana.  He died in 1928.
 According to 'Descendants of William Shankland', Oscar had 1 child with Anna, Ella D.; and 6 children with Mary Catherine: Jessie May [m. Chauncey Mitchell], Karl Marion 1876-1950, Earl Elmo, 1880-1965; Edna Pearl; Roy Clyde; and Lulu Myrtle [m. Thomas C. Larimer].
 In the 1910 census for Aurora, ward 1, Hamilton Co.,  Nebraska, Mary C. Shankland is 54 born New York (parents Germany), widow, with 6 of 6 children living; son-in-law Thomas Larrimer is 25, born Nebraska (parents US), married once for 0 years [within the year], 'typist - printing office'; with [Mary's] daughter Lulu M. 23, b. NE (father Indiana, mother New York), married once with 0 of 0 children living; and son Roy C.  In the 1920 census for Justice Precinct 2, Wilbarger Co., Texas, Chauncey H. Mitchell is 48 born Nebraska (father Ohio, mother Iowa), farmer; with wife Jessie 45 born Indiana (father IN, mother New York); and children James 13 NE, Zella 10 NE, and Donald 4 Texas. Mother-in-law Mary Shanklin is 64 born New York (parents Germany), widow.{ed 137, sh 1a, p. 177, roll 1855 HeritageQuest}
 In the 1930 census for the Soldiers & Sailors Home in Grand Island, Nebraska Mary C. Shankland is listed age 74, born Indiana (parents US), widow. There is also a listing for Mary Shankland in Hamilton Co., Nebraska.

 Her son Roy moved to Las Animas, Bent Co., Colorado by 1920, where he raised a family and died in 1968. Son Karl lived in Lincoln, Nebraska. Son Earl is in Grant in Hamilton Co. in 1910, and in Portland Oregon (as 'EE') in 1920, with wife Lizzie and children May and Jas. Lulu Myrtle Larimer, b. 1886 to Shankland and Bart in Nebraska, died in 1959 in Los Angeles.
