MRS. MARY BIGNELL
After an illness extending over a considerable period, Mrs. Mary Bignell passed away at 10.30 a.m. on Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jonas Drury, of Fotheringham street, Taree. For the last three months deceased has been cared for at Mrs. Drury's home. The late Mrs. Bignell reached the ago of 80 years on Sunday week. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Ballard, of Red Range, Glen lnnes. When she was a girl her parents moved to the Williams River, and when deceased was 12 years of age she came to Taree and spent three years with her uncle, Mr. McKinnon, who was the schoolteacher here at that time. Subsequently she lived with her brothers at Underbank until her marriage to Mr. Robt. Bignell, who was then farming at Bandon Grove. After a few years at the latter centre they shifted to Tamworth, and later returned to Bandon Grove. About 10 years ago they came to Lansdowne and farmed there until they came to Taree in 1924 to live in retirement. Her husband passed away in Taree about nine years ago. The late Mrs. Bignell was a fine woman, and was held in the greatest respect by a very wide circle, of friends. She was the mother of a large, family; to whom she devoted her life. She was a deeply religious woman, and exercised a splendid influence on all who became associated with her. Many neighbours of years gone by will remember with gratitude her unselfish services in times of sick- ness and bereavement, She is survived by the whole of her family of 12 children. They arc Messrs. Clarence Bignell (Taree), Lewis Bignell (Bundaberg, Q.), Alex. Bignell (Hannam Vale), Alf. Bignell (John's River), Allan Bignell (Wyong), Captain David Bignell (of the Salvation Army at Cessnock) ; Mesdames Frank Towers (Taree), Jonas Drury (Taree), — Dart (Edgcliffe), Flick (Coff's Harbour). Andrew Drury (Lansdowne), and Jonas Unicomb (Lorne). The surviving brothers are Messrs. Cyrus Ballard (Nambour, Q.), David Ballard (Eastwood), Allan Ballard (Glen Innes). The surviving sister is Mrs. Jas. Cornish, of Red Range. The late Edward Ballard, of Red Range, was the other member of the family. The funeral moved from the home of Mrs. Drury at 1 p.m. on Tuesday for the Dawson, cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. C. L. Connor and Major A. L. Vines. Mr. W. T. Howard carried out the funeral arrangements.
