Mr. M. F. Grindstaff Martin F. Grindstaff was born, March 30, 1839, in Lawrence County Indiana. At 9 years of age he moved with his parents to Jefferson Co. Iowa. Moving later to Pitman Co., Mo., where he grew to manhood. He was married to Margaret Howard, July 4th, 1859. In 1862 he volunteered and served throughout the Civil War in the 2nd. Prov. Reg. Co. A Cavalry. Was honorably discharged in August 1865. In 1885 he moved with his family to Marion County and lived here until 1906 when he moved to Plains, Meade Co., Kansas. but health failing him he moved back here a few months ago where he could be cared for by his children, making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Brooks, who has been very faithful in caring for him and her mother, who is also in very poor health.
Mr. Grindstaff was converted several years ago and became a member of the Methodist church, then in the midst of a busy life, had wandered as a prodigal from his Fathers house, but during Evangelist Stewarts meeting at the Christian church in the presence of Rev. Stewart and Rev. Roberts and others manifested hs desire to repent and return to the father's fold, of which he did and the rest of his days he was ever mindful of hs Heavenly father's love and care for him, and passed to his reward, June 29, 1921, at the age of 82 years, 2 months, 29 days, leaving a wife, three sons, two daughters to mourn his death, one daughter preceeded him 47 years ago.
The large contribution of beautiful flowers from his many friends was significant of his kind and friendly spirit. . . .
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. L. Roberts, pastor of the Christian church, Thursday, June 30, 1921, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. brooks, and interment made in Highland cemetery of this city.
