Mrs. M. F. Grindstaff Margaret Catherine Howard, was born, Feb. 10, 1843 at Blakesburg, Ind. At the age of 7 years she went with her parents to Putnam Co. Missouri, where she grew to womanhood.
On July 4, 1859 she was united in marriage to Martin F. Grindstaff. To this union were born six children: three boys and three girls; James F. Grindstaff, of Plains, Kans.; Alice Susan, who passed on before at the age of ten years; Leone E. Mayes, Marion, Kans.; Rosa B. Brooks, Marion, Kans.; Samuel H. Grindstaff, and David J. Grindstaff, Lincolnville, Kans.
She with her husband and family moved to Kansas settling in Marion County. then in the year of 1906, she with her husband moved to Plains, Kansas, where they lived until health failed them, then returning to Marion county to be with their children.
She passed away at the home of her son, David, in Lincolnville, Kans, on Feb. 17th, 1923 being 80 years of age. The husband, Martin F. Grindstaff, preceded her to the better world June 29, 1921.
She was united with the church in early life and remained a true and faithful Christian until her death.
She was a loving wife and a kind mother, and a true friend.
The funeral services were conducted at the home of Samuel Grindstaff where some of her choice songs were beautifully tended. The Scripture used was of her choice, John 14 and Rev. 14-15.
The interment was made in the Marion cemetery.
