In 1930, Martin was a 76-year-old widower living in St. Louis, Missouri with his daughter Christine Curley True. According to the census, he was born in West Ireland, married at the age of 24, immigrated in 1879 and was a naturalized citizen.

According to the memorial page at FindaGrave, he was born 16 October 1845 at Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland, and died 10 August 1936. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. The registers of the parish at Loughrea record the 1845 baptism of a Martin Curley, b. October 16, baptized October 18, son of "Jacobus" [James][Curley] and Maria Joyce. The sponsors were John and Bridget Byam(?).

A birth date of 1856 would make him too young to be married in 1871, so all of the birth dates for his family in the 1900 census are suspect. Perhaps a neighbor gave the information and was just guessing.

He was 26 in 1870; 32 in 1880; 55 in 1910; 68 in 1920; 76 in 1930.
