Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, September, 9, 1920.
These lines are to the memory of Mattie A. Kohler, wife of Emanual Kohler, who departed this life August 28, 1920, in her home at Kilgore. Her maiden name was Parker, her parents being Robert and Sarah Parker, natives of Ireland, and who came to this country and settled in Monroe Township, Carroll County, Ohio. The deceased was born on August 18, 1851, being next to the youngest in a family of ten children, all of whom have preceded her to the grave, with the exception of one brother, Wilson Parker, of Leesville, and one sister, Mrs. Anna J. Goff, who lives with her son Robert Tope, of Scio. The deceased spent her girlhood days in Monroe Township. In the year of 1881 she was united in marriage to John Wilson. They located in Harrison County, near Bowerston. To this union was born one daughter, Eva Florence Wilson. She lived near Bowerston until after the death of her husband. She then returned to Monroe Township to her parents where she remained until her marriage with Emanuel Kohler in 1897. Since that time she had spent the rest of her life near and in Kilgore.
She was an affectionate wife, a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor. She bore the sorrows of this life bravely; she had a smile and a kind word for everyone and had won many friends, and to know her was to love her. She leaves to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother a husband and one daughter, who kindly cared for her in her declining days, and a host of friends. She was a member of the Lutheran Church at Kilgore, and funeral services were there conducted by her pastor, Rev. Herrnstein, after which her body was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.
We miss thy kind and loving hand,
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
Oh, yes, the home is lonely,
Dear mother is not there.
When friends meet their joys to share,
How sad to think she is not there.
Note --- her last name in the obituary is spelled Kohler, should read Colar.
