Mrs. Martha Slates, widow of the late Solomon Slates, died at her home in Kilgore Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock. She had been ailing for several years with lung trouble and since last winter had been poorly with dropsy. She had two children, Mr. Jesse Slates of Bergholz and Mrs. Jesse Lucas of Kilgore. She was a member of the M. E. Church and a woman of superior virtues. Funeral at Kilgore today at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Piggott. The families of W. H. Slates, L. W. Wiard and John R. Slates are relatives and will attend the funeral; also Miss Maggie Slates.
